ACAT is BACK!!!
The Aqua City Actors Theatre (ACAT) lost its home theater in downtown Waterville when it was torn down for the new Arts Center, and right when COVID was making life difficult for everybody. The Playhouse At Waterville Station is thrilled to finally be able to provide a new home for ACAT. However, we need your help to complete this dream!
The Playhouse is in the building that used to be the Railroad Square Cinema. This means it has theaters in it, but they are movie theaters, not theaters for live plays. ACAT needs to raise funds for several significant renovations to complete the transformation of the largest of these theaters into ACAT’s new home.
ACAT’s first order of business is upgrading the lighting system. We are planning to install state-of-the-art LED theater lights. This requires not just the lights themselves but also the necessary infrastructure for installation with costs estimated at approximately $150,000.
Another significant project is the construction of a dressing room. This addition is essential for providing a professional environment for our performers to prepare, as well as to access the stage. We anticipate the cost to run in the ballpark of $20,000.
Finally, we need a stage! This involves removing some of the current seating, as well as adding staging, curtains, and stage access for the actors. Anticipated costs for the stage area are approximately $20,000.
How you can help:
All donations are gratefully appreciated. An anonymous donor has pledged to match donations up to $50,000, but as you can see we need as much generosity as the community can muster!
ACAT is a 501(c)3. For additional information on giving, please contact Stephanie Irwin, Board Member-at-Large and Chair of Fundraising at (207)319-2656. Your generosity will help us create a welcoming and vibrant artistic home for both our theater company and our devoted audiences.
