About The Playhouse

Located in the former Railroad Square Cinema building, the Playhouse at Waterville Station is aimed at the achievement of several related dreams; providing a home for the Aqua City Actors Theatre, providing a place for playful performance, education, and recreation for Waterville, and fulfilling the wishes of several loved ones, living and passed.

The primary goal of The Playhouse is to provide a home for the Aqua City Actors Theater (ACAT). However, this is part of a grander vision to expand the “cultural center” of Waterville to encompass a larger area of the community, both geographically and conceptually. We hope to complement other cultural hubs in the city with community-oriented “playful” arts, culture, education, and performance.

About ACAT

The Aqua City Actors Theater (ACAT) has been providing thought-provoking dramatic and comedic live theater to Waterville for the past several decades. ACAT’s performances emhasize the “black-box” style of theater, with relatively simple sets and an increased focus on the performance and themes of the play itself.

As a community theater, the emphasis is on “community”. ACAT is committed to engaging the people of Waterville and Central Maine in the multifaceted world of theater. We welcome carpenters, costumers, directors, stage managers, stagehands, technical staff, play readers, playwrights, actors, lighting and sound designers, historians, vocal experts, information experts, and volunteers to actually produce and mount shows. And, most importantly, we welcome the individuals who come to see the productions; you are our reason for being and we are grateful for your support.

ACAT lost its long-time theater in The Center, to make way for the new downtown Arts Center, and we are all thrilled that ACAT will now be the resident theater company at The Playhouse At Waterville Station.
